Get to know Rob

My name is Rob, and I became an instructor almost by accident. I decided to join the New Generation Gap Course when the university felt like there were better choices. Little did I know I’d stumble on a career path that I truly enjoy! Since then, I’ve worked in Australia, Switzerland and Italy before basing myself in Courchevel, France.

At four, I learned to ski on a dry ski slope near home in Runcorn. I was a ‘holiday skier’ until 18 when I ventured onto the Gap Course. After qualifying for my Level 2, I set my sights on Level 4 and worked hard to get there as fast as possible. Soaking up knowledge and gaining skills was a challenge and a pleasure during this time. I began training in the gym, working on strength and flexibility to give myself the best chances for success, substituting having no racing background with the conditions I could create to succeed. I achieved Level 4 just before my 23rd birthday.

Somewhere along the line – perhaps due to all the inspiring coaches who helped me succeed – I wanted to become a BASI trainer. I found a love for teaching and skiing alike. Guiding people to success is both fulfilling and exciting. With that as my current goal, I can firmly say that this career continues to show me that my guests and I have a higher potential than we would ever have thought.

What do you do after winter?

Summers are a time for me to explore and develop new skills. In 2017, I had the opportunity to teach in Australia, and more recently, I became a certified personal trainer. I enjoy using this time to challenge myself and continue to grow.
